February 02, 2007
According to China Daily, China has started its last phase of 4G field test in Changning District, Shanghai, for 150 million RMB (US$19.3 million; US$1 = 7.8 RMB). This test, which will last from 2006 to 2010, is part of its FuTURE (Future Technology for Universal Radio Environment) project participated by ten major Chinese institutions since 2001. This initiation, claimed to be world's first 4G network, is expected to deliver a 100Mbps data transmission speed, much faster than the current 3G technology, and is scheduled to kick off commercialization in 2010.
